My favorite thing about making this easy and simple green grape salad recipe is that you can make it at such an affordable price, especially when green grape and other types of grapes are in season, which happens towards the end of summer. When grapes are on sale and if you shop at a regular grocery store, the costs for this recipe can be less than $5, but if they are not on sale, the prices are around $10. I cannot overstate how incredible this green grape salad is!

The first time I ate grape salad was during my first Thanksgiving here in America in 2009. My father in law made it; he is an excellent cook, and I instantly fell in love with it. I was introduced to all sorts of American food that day, but the grape salad was my favorite. I didn’t even know that you can turn grapes into a grape salad!

This easy and simple grape salad recipe has been passed down from my husband’s family for generations. We always make this recipe when we get together. I fell in love with my father in law’s recipe that thanksgiving day, and I have made this recipe ever since, even when it is not a special day. I have tried to put some other ingredients to it, but this easy and simple green grape recipe is my favorite.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED FOR THIS RECIPE

ingredients to make grape salads, green grapes, cream cheese, sour cream, brown sugar

Seedless green grapes: Make sure the grapes are sweet. The sour green grapes taste so bad when you turn them into a salad, and they require tons of sugar. So taste the grapes first before you buy them. You can also use any variety of grapes, use whatever you have in hand. You can even use mixed colors.

Slice the grapes lengthwise if they are big so they can be easy to chew. Slicing the grapes allows you to not add a lot of sugar to the cream cheese and sour cream mixture. This way, the natural sweetness of the grapes sweetens the cheese mixture. The grapes get coated well with the cheese mixture too, when they are sliced.

Cream cheese: You can use low-fat cream cheese if you have any dietary restrictions.
Sour cream: You can also switch to low-fat sour cream; they taste the same.
White cream: To sweeten the cheese and sour cream mixture.
Brown sugar: It is used for toppings. But you don’t need a lot. The natural sweetness of grapes is all we need.

I love using the C&H, Cane sugar, golden brown sugar because it is made with pure sugar and is so light. I love it because the sugar will not harden after opening the bag. The package is resealable, so you can securely close it, and the product will stay fresh for a long time compared to other brands that will harden after just one use. Also, the price is so fair for how good of a product this is.

What is the best way to make a grape salad?

1- Wash and dry the grapes first. Then slice the grapes lengthwise. (Only slice the grapes if they are big, you do not need to if they are small).

I always slice mine because it’s easier to chew it that way, and I like the texture better. Slicing the grapes allows you to not add a lot of sugar to the cream cheese and sour cream mixture. This way, the natural sweetness of the grapes sweetens the cheese mixture. And it’s healthier.

Now place the sliced grapes in a baking pan like this rimmed baking pan, or you can also use a mixing bowl.

2- Using a stand mixer, hand mixer, or just a whisk ( whatever you have in hand), mix together the cream cheese and the sour cream. Add just a little bit of sugar according to your taste (mine is about 2 Tbsp). It tastes better if you allow the natural sweetness of the grapes to sweeten the mixtures. And it is much healthier too this way. Scoop the cheese mixture with a spatula to get everything out and then add to the grapes. Gently combine both.

4- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. DO NOT add the brown sugar topping until you are ready to serve, or else the brown sugar will melt, and the grapes will become runny.
